Great video by Yahoo! Sports with Natalie Coughlin showing some of her dryland work.

What’s the future of Swimming?
Recently I got caught up in a discussion with a swimmer friend about the future of technology. Somehow we ended up comparing the progress in technology to the progress in swimming. Please leave a comment a let us know what you think the future holds for swimming.

The Individual Team Sport
Over the past few weeks I had a hard time to find my way to the pool. Although I did swim almost every morning on my own and often did different workouts than my teammates in the evening, I was part of something bigger…a TEAM!

2010 Swimwear of the Year
Swimming in the years B.J. (before Jaked) supposedly wasn’t a sport of high interest. There seemed to be a lonely warrior, Michael Phelps, on a quest to bring swimming to the main stream and into the living rooms of millions of people.

Advice to Coaches (and Swimmers)
As coaching starts to become my primary responsibility at the pool, I realize there are five important things to keep in mind doing this job. I still consider myself a total rookie and this post is directed more toward swim coaches who are just beginning their coaching career.

Champion Ingredients
Something I get asked a lot lately particularly by people not familiar with swimming is “What makes a champion in your sport?”. What I’m about to tell you could apply to almost any sport but, of course, comes from what I believe makes for a great swimmer.

Finswimming Championships 2010
On Saturday June 12th I participated at the 2010 Finswimming Championships in Brig. In the midst of final exams at school and not really a great training regime I decided this was the one distraction needed to “recharge” my batteries.

Descend – This is a set where each one of the repeats whatever the distance may be gets faster. The term descends comes from the time it takes for the swimmer to complete the distance. The swimmer gets faster each one until the last one is the fastest.

Le sport dans la société

One of my swimmers is in this video that her school made about sports in society (start watching at 5m37s). Great quote “La natation est une école de vie”.

I had the honor to meet Alex a couple times over the past year while the USA Open Water team spent some time training in the Florida Keys. Alex is the first USA swimmer to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics with his top 10 finish in the 10km at the recent Open Water World Championships. Visit his new website and become a fan on Facebook.

Road to Hawaii – Ironman Workouts
Filed under: Workouts | Tags: Ironman, Swimming, Triathlon
This week I started working with Mike Aigroz, world class Swiss triathlete and Ironman athlete. He’s getting ready to leave for Hawaii in about 10 days to get ready for the big show. He has been doing his swim training with Vevey Natation for a while now but never really asked for specific help. He approached me last week, asking if I were interested in helping him with his swimming before his departure for Hawaii.

Warm down – This is at the end of practice to cool down the muscles. The warm down could be done as slow as the swimmer would like. They should not race through it because that does not help the body cool down. It is also very important not to skip this part of practice because if the muscles do not cool down properly they may get tight and this is very commonly the reason for injuries.
