This week I started working with Mike Aigroz, world class Swiss triathlete and Ironman athlete. He’s getting ready to leave for Hawaii in about 10 days to get ready for the big show. He has been doing his swim training with Vevey Natation for a while now but never really asked for specific help. He approached me last week, asking if I were interested in helping him with his swimming before his departure for Hawaii.

Warm down – This is at the end of practice to cool down the muscles. The warm down could be done as slow as the swimmer would like. They should not race through it because that does not help the body cool down. It is also very important not to skip this part of practice because if the muscles do not cool down properly they may get tight and this is very commonly the reason for injuries.

Most of you probably heard that on September 1, 2011 I officially started with Vevey Natation as their new Head Coach. Training for my groups started on Monday, August 29, 2011 and I wanted to share the initial workout the team did with all off you. We started slow with an aerobic freestyle and kicking workout. You can view the workout or download a PDF file at ProSwimWorkouts.com.

Meli Malani from Fiji who had been training in the Keys with me this summer flew over to New Zealand after the Far Western Championships in California to compete in the 2011 NZ Short Course Championships. Meli won the 50 butterfly (26.45) and the 50 breaststroke (30.47), got the silver medal in the 50 free (24.42), got 4th place in the 100 butterfly (1:00.96) and got 7th place in the 100 free (56.18). He also swam the 100 IM but didn’t make final in that event. This was a great meet for Meli. Full results can be found on the New Zealand Swimming website.
