Is Your Suit Still Legal?
FINA has finally announced the approved suits list for 2009. The Speedo LZR makes it for this summer, but there’s no sign of the arena X-Glide in which Alain Bernard set his 100m free world record and also no sign of the Jaked 01 in which Fred Bousquet scorched a 20.94. This probably means that the first sub-21sec 50m free and the first sub-47sec 100m free are yet to be achieved in terms of counting for world records. There’s also no sign of the BlueSeventy in which several others world records were set during the last few months. As always, there’s already a lot of writing and talking going on … check out some interesting articles on the topic over at Swimming World Magzine or SwimNews.com.

It’s No Longer Man vs. Water
Is It the Athlete or the Equipment? This seems to be the ongoing question in other sports than swimming as well. The New York Times tries to answer in a recent article if there should be drawn a line on the latest technology? Gary Hall Jr. and Craig Lords give their opinions on the issue for the sport of swimming.

CMAS World Cup 2009 Round 6
The 6th round of the CMAS Finswimming World Cup was held on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 at the Centro Sportivo (outdoor) pool in Tenero. I did only participate on the 2nd day of competition on Saturday but did take on 4 race that same day.
Great Turtle Race
Conservation International and National Geographic have teamed up with field research partner Canadian Sea Turtle Network to bring you the 2009 Great Turtle Race. This is the third event in a series that brings public attention to the critically endangered leatherback sea turtle and generates important research and conservation support. The turtles were being “coached” by U.S. Olympic swimmers such as Eric Shanteau who’s turtle, Backspacer, won this year’s race. The rest of the turtles continue to swim toward the finish and there are plenty of challenges still to be won.
FKSC Summer of Coaching
This summer I’ll be heading to the Florida Keys once again. Only this time, the main purpose for my visit won’t be my personal swimming but the swimming of the Florida Keys Swim Club athletes. I’m going to do some coaching along with Mark Hill, head coach of the FKSC.
My plane ticket is already booked and my flight is leaving on Sunday, June 14 from Zurich Airport. I’m looking forward to a great summer in the Keys and learning from Mark’s experiences and hopefully bring some of my personal experience to the team. If some of you are in the area, please let me know and we’ll try to meet up and have some fun.
